.SE Domain Names

The .SE country-specific top-level domain extension was launched in 1986 and assigned to Sweden. During the first years after its introduction, the registration process was pretty restrictive, so a very low number of domain names were bought. Persons were permitted to book no more than one domain under .PP.SE (“pp” stands for “private person”). Local presence was a prerequisite, i.e. only Swedish persons, firms and organizations were able to book a .SE domain. In 2003, however, the registration process was liberalized significantly and, accordingly, the number of .SE domains has been increasing each year.

Currently, anybody can book a dot SE domain, which allows you to get in touch with the Swedish WWW community even if you do not have a local presence.
