An access log is a text file which contains a thorough report on all the files accessed by your Internet site visitors. All the files that were requested in one way or another shall be included, so if you have a PHP script application and a visitor opens just the home page, for instance, you might find plenty of files inside the log. The reason is that there are resources on the home page that are embedded - parts of other web pages, graphics, etc. All of these files shall be listed inside the access log, allowing you to get a full picture of the way your website performs. The information is in plain text format, so the logs are often termed "raw data" too. An access log provides the name of every requested file, the path to it, the date it was accessed, as well as the user’s IP address, world-wide web browser and OS. Additional information, including the referrer site, is sometimes supplied as well. A log file may be processed by various desktop applications for statistical purposes as an addition to the web stats provided by your website hosting server.

Access Log Manager in Hosting

When you get a hosting from our company, you shall be able to choose if access logs must be created and for which domains or subdomains in your account this must be done. You can enable this option from the Access/Error Logs section of the Hepsia Control Panel, which comes with all shared accounts. Every domain name you host or subdomain you set up will be listed there and you see an On/Off option next to each of them, so you can conveniently trigger or deactivate the generation of access logs separately for each site that you have. You'll be able to save a log to your laptop or computer by clicking on the Download link that you'll see inside the very same section of the Control Panel. The link will be available even if you disable the log generation, so you shall still have access to the data collected by our system.

Access Log Manager in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you host your websites in a semi-dedicated server account with us, you will have the option to trigger or disable the generation of access logs with just a few clicks in your Hepsia hosting Control Panel. You'll find this function in the Access/Error Logs section, which you can access when you sign in. All it takes for our system to start producing logs is one click on the On button which you will see there. The function can be activated independently for any site no matter if it uses a domain name or a subdomain and you'll find a complete list of all the hosts in that section. Any access log can be downloaded as a text file with a click and you could then see it manually or use some software on your computer. The log generation can be stopped by simply changing the On option to Off in the Logs section of your CP.
